2021 Symposium Update (October 2020)We have also decided to postpone our Symposium in Lithuania until 2022. By then we hope that travel restrictions will be lifted, and pandemic spread will be under control, allowing us to be able to travel to Lithuania and make that event a well-attended success. We will, however, be hosting another virtual symposium in June 2021.

Call for 2021 Presentation Proposals

The International Association for Social Work with Groups invites group work students, practitioners, researchers, faculty, administrators, community workers and activists, and group organizers from various professional disciplines, to submit presentation proposals for the IASWG 2021 Virtual Symposium.

Proposals are welcomed in all areas of group work, especially related to group work practice with populations in a variety of settings, multicultural practice, group work in developing countries or underserved communities, community development, activist group work practice, group work research and training.

  • Education sessions are 30 or 60 minutes, comprised of didactic learning, panel or interactive discussion, or skill building with an experiential component. The purpose of these educational discovery sessions is to give attendees exposure to a presenter's work and/or research.
  • Posters are visual representations of research, practice, or training initiatives, and are presented at designated times during the Symposium as well as on display in our Poster Gallery.

Group Work in a Changing World: The Power of Connection

It has become increasingly clear that the world is in a state of constant change: in relation to politics, climate, health, disease and economics; with resulting impacts on human life, human rights, systematic oppression, interpersonal conflict and widening socio-economic gaps. There is an ever-growing need for group work to help build connections, address social isolation, enhance mutual understanding and challenge inequities through activism and community organizing.

Volunteer selection will be confirmed by email no later than February 16, 2021. Please note, you must be an IASWG member before your volunteer application is reviewed.
