Call for 2019 & 2020 IASWG Symposia Proceedings Papers

IASWG cordially invites anyone who presented a paper presentation, a workshop presentation, or a poster presentation, at either the 2019 New York City Symposium or the 2020 NYC Virtual Symposium, to submit a paper to be published in the IASWG 2019/2020 Symposium Proceedings book. Planned publication date would be end-of-year 2021, and submissions will be accepted in English and other languages.

Submission Guidelines: 

  • Step 1: By February 25, 2021, please confirm your intention to submit a paper for publication by completing this brief online interest form.
  • Step 2: By March 31, 2021, all papers must be submitted for a blind review acceptance process based on criteria such as clarity and scholarship.
  • Contributors must submit two copies of their papers, indicating whether the paper relates to the 2019 or the 2020 symposium.
  • One copy should include an author/title page which includes the names and organizational affiliation of each author. One author must be identified as a corresponding author and include his/her contact information (telephone, email & mailing addresses).
  • The second copy should not include any identifying information and should include only the title and "review" in the file name.

Review Criteria:

All papers will be subject to a blind peer review process based upon the following criteria:

  • Relevance to Symposium Themes
    • 2019 Theme: Group Work in Communities: Breaking Down Barriers, Building Global Connections
    • 2020 Theme: The Climate is Ripe for Groupwork: Creating Connections and Restoring Hope in a Fragmented World
  • Scholarship - each paper must include relevant supportive references;
  • Clarity - papers must be clearly written and accessible to a wide variety of readers;
  • Technical Elements - paper uses consistent referencing style and formatting;
  • Practice focused - papers must offer an explicit practice focus of interest to group workers. Research or theoretically oriented papers must include a discussion of their implications and/or applications to group work practice.

Formatting Requirements:

  • Length: 14-24 double-spaced pages (3000 to 6000 words)
  • Font: 12pt Times New Roman font
  • Referencing Style: APA 6th Edition
  • Figures & Tables: Monochrome only. Please see Notes for Authors by Whiting and Birch.
